- Is it possible to span any version of QC?
Yes, Foresight will work against QC versions 9.0, 9.2, 10.0 and 11.0 databases. The QC product version is of less concern with Foresight since it only needs connection to the underlying databases. Since the basic database schema that Foresight uses in QC hasn’t changed across these versions, then Foresight will work as expected.
- What happens if the QC Database changes in future releases?
The underlying QC database has not changed in several versions. The data elements Foresight extracts are limited so if the underlying QC Database changes we would update Foresight and send out a patch as needed. We have a current maintenance agreement with HP and we get all new QC releases as soon as they are available. Foresight works with QC versions 9, 9.2, 10.0 and 11.0. As HP has grown the product capabilities of QC, the backwards compatibility of the database schema upon which Foresight depends has been a primary goal of HP. This is because so many vendors like CTE have enhanced the functionality of QC with add-on products. When QC began as Mercury Test Director many years ago, one of the primary benefits of the product was the ‘open test architecture’ called OTA. Many vendors since the Mercury days have worked with the OTA to deliver extra value to QC and HP has been careful to maintain this backwards compatibility in the underlying database structure.
- What is the environment set up, is it on mainframe or on QC server?
Foresight should be installed on a Windows Server running Internet Information Services (IIS): either a 2003 Server with IIS 6 or a 2008 Server with IIS 7. Other required components are shipped with the Foresight installation files and include the .Net 4.0 framework and SQL Server Express 2008. Virtual servers have also been used by our clients. The server upon which Foresight is installed must have network access to the database server for QC but Foresight does not have to be installed on the same server as QC.
- What kind of support is typical with this application?
CTE will send a resource in person (if required) to work with your organization to ensure a successful installation. During the installation we will provide your chosen product administrator support with configuring the product and also hold a training session for all users of the application to ensure it is effective for the company. CTE will provide 8 hrs of training credits with the initial installation. We usually conduct some onsite training during installation and then the remaining training credits can be used towards training webinars. With a current maintenance agreement, CTE will provide ongoing support for any issues and/or questions your organization may have. Your organization will also be entitled to any future updates/upgrades to the current Foresight application.
